Terms of Service

Last updated: July 28, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Animal Detect, including our web platform, API, documentation, billing pages, and related support services. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Service overview

Animal Detect helps wildlife professionals, researchers, and organisations manage and analyse wildlife imagery and related data through a browser-based platform and a programmable API.

The service is offered as three products:

  • Wildlife Monitoring: connected cameras and other field devices streaming captures into a shared organisation workspace, licensed yearly.
  • Dataset Processing: bulk processing of image and video archives through the platform, priced per gigabyte.
  • Detection API: programmatic access to our detection models, metered per image.

Every account includes free allowances described in Section 3. Higher-volume needs may be handled through custom arrangements.

2. Billing model

Wildlife Monitoring is licensed per organisation on a yearly basis, sized by the number of connected cameras recorded in your licence. Licences are invoiced yearly. A paid pilot may be offered; its terms, including any crediting toward a full licence, are stated at the time of the pilot offer. When a licence expires without renewal, the workspace moves to a read-only state for a grace period, after which data handling follows our retention policy.

Dataset Processing is sold as one-time processing quota, purchased self-serve per gigabyte. Purchased quota is granted to your organisation immediately after payment and does not expire while your account is active. The purchase includes processing, review tooling, all exports, and storage of processed data for 12 months after processing; after that period we may ask you to export, renew storage, or delete.

The Detection API is metered per processed image, with no subscription and no minimum. Paid usage requires a payment card on file; metered consumption is charged automatically at the end of each billing month for exactly what was used. Volume and invoice billing are available by agreement.

Current prices, free allowances, and purchase sizes for all three products are shown on our Pricing page and at the point of purchase. The price shown at the time of purchase is the one that applies.

3. Free allowances

Creating an account is free and includes:

  • A one-time Dataset Processing trial allowance per organisation, with full access to review tooling and exports within the trial quota.
  • A monthly free allowance of API detections per organisation. Free API usage requires a verified email address, is limited to one free API key, uses synchronous endpoints only, and is subject to lower rate limits.

Wildlife Monitoring has no free tier; discovery runs through a demo and the paid pilot described in Section 2. The current size of each free allowance is shown on the Pricing page. Free allowances are provided as-is, may be adjusted with reasonable notice, and may be revoked in cases of abuse, including repeated registrations created to farm trial allowances.

4. Organisations and shared workspaces

Every account belongs to an organisation. When you sign up, an organisation is created for you automatically; you can rename it and invite others. Entitlements, quotas, licences, and free allowances attach to the organisation, not to individual members. There is no per-seat charge and no limit on members.

Members of an organisation share its workspace: content uploaded to the organisation, connected devices, and processing results are visible to the organisation's members according to their roles (owner, admin, member). You are responsible for who you invite and for removing members who should no longer have access.

5. Your content and permissions

You retain ownership of content you submit to Animal Detect. You grant us the rights we reasonably need to host, store, transmit, process, secure, back up, and display that content in order to operate the service for you and your organisation.

Your data belongs to you. All content is private by default, on every product. We do not sell your content, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes; it is disclosed only to the service providers we need to operate the platform (such as hosting and payment processing), as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not review or reuse your content for service improvement, model training, or research, except as required to operate, secure, support, or comply with legal obligations, or where an organisation has expressly agreed otherwise in a written agreement with us.

Images in which our models detect people or vehicles are protected by the Privacy Filter: the detected regions are blurred in the stored copies that the platform serves by default. The organisation owner can disable the Privacy Filter for the organisation where the organisation has a lawful basis to view such imagery; responsibility for that decision rests with the organisation.

You represent that you have the necessary rights and permissions to upload and process the content you submit, and that doing so does not violate applicable law or the rights of others.

Your use of the service is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of these Terms.

6. Migration from the earlier billing model

Animal Detect previously used subscription plans with credit allowances. That model is retired. Remaining value on retired subscriptions and unused balances was converted to equivalent processing quota or agreed individually with affected customers at migration time. Historical billing records from the earlier model are kept for accounting and compliance, but no new charges arise from them and they can no longer be purchased or consumed.

7. Changes, cancellation, and payment failure

  • Monitoring licences renew yearly by agreement. Camera slots can be added mid-term; added slots are invoiced pro rata for the remaining licence period.
  • Dataset Processing purchases are one-time quota purchases; there is nothing to cancel and quota does not expire while the account is active.
  • The Detection API has no subscription. You can remove your card at any time; paid usage stops and the free monthly allowance continues.

If a payment fails, we retry it following our payment provider's standard retry schedule. For the API, the key is paused after the final failed retry and unpaused immediately when payment succeeds. For licences, we contact you before restricting access.

8. API spend caps

Metered API accounts receive a default monthly spend cap, created when a card is added; its current default amount is shown in your billing settings. You can raise or lower this cap at any time. When usage reaches the cap, the API key pauses and we notify you; raising the cap or waiting for the next month resumes service. The cap protects you from runaway scripts; it is not a billing commitment.

9. Payments and refunds

Licences, quota purchases, and metered billing are processed by Stripe or another payment provider we designate.

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on self-serve purchases: if the platform does not meet your expectations, contact support@animaldetect.com within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us within 7 days or as required by applicable law.

10. Acceptable use

You may not use Animal Detect to break the law, interfere with service availability, abuse our API, bypass product restrictions or metering, attempt unauthorised access, or upload content you do not have the right to process.

We may suspend or limit access if we reasonably believe your use creates security, legal, operational, or abuse risk.

You may not use the service in violation of applicable export control or sanctions laws, including those of the European Union.

We may monitor usage and enforce rate limits or technical measures to prevent abuse or misuse of the service.

API results expire after 30 days. Compact API request state is deleted after 45 days. You are responsible for saving any API results that you need beyond the documented retrieval period. Aggregated usage, billing, security, and compliance records may be retained longer.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Really A Robot ApS, its affiliates, officers, and employees from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from: (a) your content, (b) your use of the service, or (c) your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

12. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Animal Detect at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these Terms, create abuse or security risk, fail to pay for paid services, or if continued service would create legal or operational risk for us or others.

Termination does not automatically remove records we must keep for billing, security, legal compliance, or legitimate operational purposes.

Upon termination or suspension, your access to the service may be disabled immediately. We may delete or retain your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable legal obligations.

13. Intellectual property

Animal Detect, including its software, models, design, documentation, and branding, remains the property of Really A Robot ApS or its licensors. These Terms do not transfer ownership of our intellectual property to you.

14. Disclaimers

Animal Detect is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every workflow, or that model output will always be complete, accurate, or fit for a specific purpose.

You remain responsible for reviewing outputs and for decisions made based on those outputs. This includes the Privacy Filter: detection models can miss people or vehicles in an image, and the filter cannot blur what the models do not detect.

We do not provide any service level agreement (SLA) unless explicitly agreed in writing.

We are not responsible for any loss, corruption, or deletion of data. You are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of your content.

15. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Animal Detect and Really A Robot ApS will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, business, goodwill, or data arising from or related to your use of the service.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for claims arising out of or relating to the service will not exceed the amounts you paid us for Animal Detect during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

16. Changes to the service or Terms

We may update the service, products, or these Terms over time. Material changes will be reflected on this page and, where appropriate, communicated by email or inside the product before they take effect.

17. Force majeure

We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, war, terrorism, labour disputes, internet or cloud service failures, or governmental actions.

18. Contact and governing law

For legal or billing questions, contact info@animaldetect.com or support@animaldetect.com. These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Denmark.
