Nordic Gamekeeper puts a species on every image its cameras send
Nordic Gamekeeper is a Swedish company that has made equipment for gamekeepers and hunters since 2000: connected wildlife cameras, app-controlled feeders and the SIM cards that keep them online. Owners follow their cameras in its app, NG Connect, where every image lands in one gallery.
Challenge
A connected camera sends an image every time something moves in front of it. An owner with several cameras gets a long gallery to go through, and much of it is of no interest.
Nordic Gamekeeper wanted its app to say what is in each image. Training and running species recognition is not a camera maker's work, and the answers have to hold for the animals its customers actually meet.
Solution
Each image that reaches Nordic Gamekeeper's system is sent to the Detection API. Back come the species, the confidence and the position of every animal, and people, vehicles and empty frames are marked as such.
In NG Connect, owners filter their gallery by what is in the image instead of opening every one. The engine is the same one that identifies the captures in Wildlife Monitoring.
Results
“This API solves our headache with reliable animal predictions for our users. When it comes to accurate species guessing, Animal Detect is probably the best out there.”
