Aage V. Jensen Naturfond watches Denmark's wildest nature with Animal Detect
Aage V. Jensen Naturfond is a Danish nature fund that buys, restores and protects nature areas. In the VILD project, supported by the Danish Ministry of Environment, it follows the wildlife of two of Denmark's wildest areas: Lille Vildmose and Ovstrup Hede.
Challenge
The two areas cover 8,090 hectares. Red deer, wolves and European bison move through them, and the fund needs to know where and how many.
Cameras stand across both areas and send images every day and night. Looking through them by hand took the staff's time away from the land itself, and many images were never looked at.
Solution
The cameras send their images straight to Animal Detect, where every animal is identified as the image arrives. The team opens one place, sees what was recorded and corrects a label where needed.
People and vehicles are blurred automatically. Drone flights over the same areas land in the same place as the camera images.
Results

“We use Animal Detect to monitor Lille Vildmose and Ovstrup Hede. Without it, we would not have the time to look through what our cameras record.”
