ππβπ¬ π¦π² ππ’π«ππ‘πππ²! What better way to celebrate than by giving something which may be used by wildlife conservation community? π¦πΏ
Over the weekend, I put together some code to estimate the distance to an animal in wildlife images. You can check it out here:
π GitHub Repo: https://lnkd.in/d3PN_yPa
While this is my first public GitHub repository, itβs far from my first time writing code! I hope this tool proves useful to researchers, conservationists, and fellow tech enthusiasts.

1οΈβ£ Clone or download the repository.
2οΈβ£ Follow the steps in the README (start a virtual environment, install requirements, and run the program).
3οΈβ£ The first time you run it, the models should download automatically.
4οΈβ£ When an image appears, click anywhere to set the βknownβ distance.
5οΈβ£ MegaDetector finds the most confident animal detection. π¦
6οΈβ£ Depth Anything generates a depth map.
7οΈβ£ Check the results folder for the output!
π Want to try with your own images? Just drop them into the βTestImageβ folder and run the program again.
