πˆπβ€™π¬ 𝐦𝐲 π›π’π«ππ‘ππšπ²! What better way to celebrate than by giving something which may be used by wildlife conservation community? πŸ¦‰πŸŒΏ

Over the weekend, I put together some code to estimate the distance to an animal in wildlife images. You can check it out here:

πŸ‘‰ GitHub Repo: https://lnkd.in/d3PN_yPa

While this is my first public GitHub repository, it’s far from my first time writing code! I hope this tool proves useful to researchers, conservationists, and fellow tech enthusiasts.

1️⃣ Clone or download the repository.

2️⃣ Follow the steps in the README (start a virtual environment, install requirements, and run the program).

3️⃣ The first time you run it, the models should download automatically.

4️⃣ When an image appears, click anywhere to set the β€œknown” distance.

5️⃣ MegaDetector finds the most confident animal detection. 🦊

6️⃣ Depth Anything generates a depth map.

7️⃣ Check the results folder for the output!

πŸ“‚ Want to try with your own images? Just drop them into the β€œTestImage” folder and run the program again.

If you missed my article on depth estimation in wildlife earlier this week, you can find it here: https://lnkd.in/dVPYwGvw
